Trust & Safety Policies
General
Don’t spam
Students come to whek.au to have a safe and engaging learning experience and instructors teach for the love of sharing knowledge. Instructors: Once you’re on the whek.au platform, don’t try to sell other products or spam each other with requests and offers.
Don’t game the system
Instructors – Don’t direct whek.au students away from the whek.au platform, push the envelope on what is and is not allowed, or search for loopholes in policies. We want our community of students to grow, as does every other instructor. When you game the system, the whole community loses out on having a common pool of engaged students who want to learn.
Students – Don’t harass instructors, ask for free coupons, or offer reviews in exchange for things. The community relies on a healthy interaction between students and instructors, as well as honest student feedback to understand which courses are right for them.
Keep it professional
Our instructors actively collaborate and communicate with each other, and students and instructors have healthy and vibrant discussions through the course-taking experience. We ask that everyone maintains professional, honest, and considerate communications with students, instructors, and whek.au staff. We’re committed to providing a platform free of any harassment.
Be a positive member of the whek.au community. Never ask for personal information, make unwanted or unsolicited contact off-platform, or post unoriginal content as your own.
Disclosing the use of audiovisual promotions in your course content
If you include an advertisement for any product or service in your course content or Bonus Lecture (such as a promotion for other whek.au courses, content available outside of the whek.au platform, affiliate links or discounted software taught in the course) in an audiovisual format, you must disclose this in your course or lesson description.
Disclose the use of promotions by including the phrase “this course contains a promotion.” Other accepted variations include “this course contains ads” or “this course contains promotional materials”
Recommended: include the disclosure at the end of your course description.
Instructors must comply with and not attempt to circumvent whek.au’s Terms of Use, including any obligations and restrictions related to audiovisual promotions.
Disclosing the use of artificial intelligence generated content in your course content
If your course content incorporates or is supported by any artificial intelligence (AI) tools, you must disclose this in your course description.
If you use any such content in your course, you must use the following phrase at the beginning of your course description: “This course contains the use of artificial intelligence.”
Not all uses of artificial intelligence require disclosure – instructors may use various AI tools to assist with course creation. If you’re unsure of whether a tool uses artificial intelligence, we recommend contacting the manufacturer directly or conducting research online to confirm. The following types of tools have a more prominent effect on learner outcomes and require disclosure:
- Content generation tools used to write course scripts or generate lecture content.
- Image/visual creation tools that generate course images, diagrams, or other static visual elements.
- Video/audio creation tools that generate artificial video or speech meant to emulate human instruction.
- Code generation tools that generate substantial code examples or programming exercises.
- Translation/dubbing: AI-powered translation services or voice cloning for multi-language versions.
- Quiz/assessment creation: AI tools that generate quiz questions, assignments, or course assessments.
- whek.au AI tools provided to instructors.
The following types of tools do not typically require disclosure:
- Grammar, spell check, or basic editing assistance tools.
- The use of AI to help find topics or gather background information (but not generate final content).
- AI-enhanced editing software, noise reduction, or technical production assistance.
- AI help with structuring existing content or creating outlines from your original ideas.
Restricted topics
Sexually: Sexually explicit content or content with implied sexual activity is not permitted. We will also not publish courses providing instruction on sexual performance or technique. Content around reproductive health and intimate relationships must be free of explicit or suggestive content.
Nudity and attire: Nudity is permitted only when essential to learning within an artistic, medical, or academic context. Attire should be appropriate to the subject area of instruction, without unnecessary emphasis on exposed body parts.
Weapons instruction: Content providing instruction in the making, handling, or usage of firearms or air guns is not permitted.
Violence and bodily harm: Dangerous activities or behaviour likely to impact health or result in injury, cannot be shown. Glorification or promotion of violence will not be tolerated.
Animal cruelty: Treatment of animals such as pets, livestock, game, etc. must be in accordance with the recommendations of relevant animal welfare organisations.
Discriminatory language or ideas: Content or conduct fostering discriminatory attitudes on the basis of a group characteristic such as sex, race, colour, ethnic or social origin, genetic features, language, religion or belief, political or any other opinion, membership of a national minority, property, birth, disability, or age will not be tolerated on the platform.
Illegal or unethical activities: Content must be in accordance with any applicable national law. Activities which are illegal in many jurisdictions may also be disallowed, even if permitted within the uploader’s country of residence.
Sensitive or otherwise inappropriate topics or language: As a global learning platform with learners ranging from casual hobbyists to professional enterprise customers, we must take into consideration many sensitivities when evaluating content. We will examine not only the kind of topic under discussion, but also how those topics are presented. When providing instruction on a sensitive subject area, ensure that all associated course materials treat that subject with care. Avoid language and imagery which is inflammatory, offensive or otherwise insensitive.
Content for young people: whek.au is not currently set up to support underage learners. Persons under the age of consent (for example, 13 in the US or 16 in Ireland) may not use the services. Those under 18 but above the age of consent may use the services only if a parent or guardian opens their account, handles any enrollments, and manages their account usage. As such, please ensure any subject matter oriented towards young students is clearly marketed to parents and guardians who will be supervising their learning.
We may remove, block, or restrict content that violates these Terms or applicable law. We may also reach out to you to request that you update your course as required by our policies or applicable law within a certain timeframe, or suspend or disable your account for conduct that violates these Terms.
If we take any of these actions, we will notify you and provide a statement explaining the basis for our decision and your options to request a review, including through our internal appeals process or certified out-of-court dispute resolution.
We may limit or delay notice where: (a) you have engaged in serious or repeated violations of these Terms; (b) providing notice would expose us or others to legal liability; (c) providing notice would compromise or interfere with the integrity or operation of our services, systems, or products; (d) we are prohibited from doing so by law or legal process; or (e) we do not have your current contact information.
Course Landing Page
whek.au strictly prohibits the following in any sections of the course landing page:
- Misleading marketing messages.
- Coupon codes, references to coupon codes or course referral links.
- External links (except in the designated links field of the Instructor Bio).
- Content duplicated from other landing pages.
Promotional Emails
Promotional Emails are a way to let students of one course know about other whek.au courses by the same instructor. They’re meant for only you to send to only your students and may only include information about your courses. Please don’t take the marketing of other courses by other instructors into your hands, because this will hurt your relationship with students who will mark you (and us!) as spam.
- You may send only two Promotional Emails per course per month.
- You may only send Promotional Emails from courses where you are a visible instructor.
- You may send coupon codes or referral links for your courses.
- You may not include any external links or references to external links in your Promotional Emails. This includes, but is not limited to, links to YouTube, other course platforms, any pages that ask for money or personal information, and your own website.
- You may not ask for or post personal information about students.
When an instructor is clearly going against the spirit of whek.au policies in an attempt to game the system or if we see a severe negative impact on the student experience (high unsubscribe rates or refund rates) it will be considered a violation of our policies.
Instructor Identity Verification Process
You may be prompted to complete instructor verification when you’re ready to submit a new course for review.
Instructors may also be directed to complete the verification process after publishing a course, as we run periodic sweeps of more established instructors. The two-step process should only take a few minutes. You can exit and re-enter the flow at any time, but be sure to complete by any specified deadline.
During the verification process, instructors will see some or all of the following prompts:
- Request to confirm ownership rights to the course content.
- Request to provide information regarding their current place of residence.
- Request to provide identity documents such as a national ID or passport.
This information is strictly confidential and is reviewed by a third party identity verification service provider in order to validate details.
